Ani DiFranco Poet

Today really has been one of those ups n downs, the kind of day you feel like staying in bed.

However, after taking care of a few things I came online. I did my run of links, & then came the blog of BillyBlog the Oxypoet. What I found there is something I will never quite get over, ~ a poem "Self Evident".

I give you the link and judge for yourselves... Thanks a million Billy.

You and me both Eric - that was utterly astounding. I listened a couple more times it was just that good - and chilling indeed. I can only pray the world does not think of Canada in the same context as the USA.
I will be thinking of this one for a long time to come.
Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Janice you are welcome, ~ I'm like you, I cannot hear it enough times. Sadly there is such a lot of truth in that poem.

Ocassionally a piece of poetry comes along that just yells KEEPER! This is one such poem, I shall put it with all my other special pieces.

Thanks to Billy for bringing it to light. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to link it to share with others. My only regret is that I wasn't in attendance! The 92nd Street Y reading series is one of the million reasons why New York is such a great place to live. A bit of a trek from South Brooklyn, but I've seen and heard some amazing performances there.

I must be a liberal. That was a powerful poem Eric. It parallels a lot of my own thoughts.

Thanks for posting this Eric although I had seen it Oxypoet's BillyBlog. After all, I am his father. :-D

Anytime Leon, LOL

I wondered how that would work out for you. hahaha

You have to admit Leon, he posts good stuff. :)

I am enormously proud of my first born, other than his family moving from L.A. to New York just after my first granddaughter was born. I wish writers and poets could make a living utilizing their talent rather than having to hold down what my father would have called a "real job."

Happy New Year!

Eric,
I must apologize for what looks like a rude comment about Americans when in fact I meant the present American leadership not the general population. I should have done a preview to catch that. My deepest apologies to any of the American readers I may have offended. It was quite unintentional.

Hi Janice, I'm quite sure nobody took it the wrong way, but nice of you to mention it anyway.

I knew what you meant besides, we have one of our own here with Harper. LOL

I know what you mean Leon and it is too bad. Competition as a writer & poets, even musicians is fierce. He does however seem to enjoy his situation and all the availabilities of New York. :)

Eric - thankyou for posting that.

Deeply appreciate it; 9.11 stunned us as it did you all; what really brought it home was doing an art course in London shortly after, with a girl who was in the next building at the time of the attack.

Every best wish for 2008 to you and yours.

Eric Valentine said...

Thanks Julie, yes the world is getting to be a small place.

That must have really been something meeting that girl from the next building, wow.

All the best for the New Year my friend. :)

My prayer also Janice...alas our leader resides on Mr. Bush's knee. I have felt this same way for so long..and for too long felt I must be alone, I must be as cynical as my Mother...but I knew. To hear this in Ani DiFranco's words...moves me more than you could know Eric...thank you so much for sharing this. Craig and I watched it together. Thank you so much..:) And Janice, I think the real folks, the common folks of America understand...they do. (((Hugs)))

Sorry to hear of your Fatal error Newnorth, I hope it didn't turn out to be completely so. :))

Hope the New Year is good to you. :)

Hello Singing Stream, I'm glad you & Craig enjoyed the poem.

Now the lesson is, people have to learn something from it, no matter where they live.

Happy New Year my friend. :)

Eric, the girl I mentioned was studying art in the college there; she said the worst part was that they kept them away from windows, so they couldn't actually see what was happening. I've met two or three Brits who had relatives working in the building at the time - and like most people, have come across someone who was due in for work and fortunately didn't make it.

A relative, a pilot, picked up what was going on that day while flying, and turned back to his base in Canada. He said he'd never had such a grateful bunch of passengers.

All the best for the New Year!

I can well imagine the horror of the whole thing Julie. That day is burned in my memory for all time.

I sat and watched the whole thing happen on TV.

Sometimes I try to visualise the horror of the planes hitting, the resulting fires, chaos, pandemonium, fear and the absolute panic, the eventual point where the mind snaps & the point that you actually jump from a window 106 floors up just to try & escape the agony of it all.

Even now sometimes you can hear their screams and yet, ~ we never heard their sounds did we. So So sad....
