OLD AGE

These shriveled sinews and this bending frame,
The workmanship of Time's strong hand proclaim;
Skilled to reverse what e'er the gods create,
And make that crooked which they fashion straight.
Hard choice for man, to die -- or else to be
That tottering, wretched, wrinkled thing you see:
Age then we all prefer; for age we pray,
And travel on to life's last, lingering day;
Then sinking slowly down from worse to worse,
Find heaven's extorted boon our greatest curse.

Hi, Eric, Good to see you again. Thank you for the ancient words of wisdom. I guess. :-) I turned 70 yesterday.

Beautiful poem in all its gloom. I hope you are doing well, Eric.

Thank you Pipe, it's nice of you to comment. I do wish I could get writing more frequently but it has been a tough year and progress in writing is slow. I will do my best soon to get here more often for I too miss the visits to your blog as well.. :)

I damn sure wasn't trying to get to 67 but here I am and I'm still holding up pretty well considering how I've lived. And I damn sure don't want to live another 20 years.

I'm more interested in going out in a bang.

Thanks for the visit BC. I think you are enjoying life right now, so why not want more.... be grateful my friend that you still have a road to travel.. :))

Hi, Eric. It's me again. Hope you're OK. BTW, I think you posted something that hinted of the superpower to your south. Then maybe you removed it. But I agreed with you. I know a lot of the clowns running loose around here would call me unpatriotic and suggest that if I didn't love it here and approve of every harebrained scheme we get ourselves into, I should just leave. BAD immigrant!! But to which ancestral homeland should I go--Scotland? Ireland? England? France? Germany? So I will just sit tight and hope for the best in 2012.

Yes I did do what you said then took it out.. I was referring like you said to north & south plus all others who fit the mold.. :))
